Pte 1173 Peter Naughton

Tim Bell

Pte Naughton enlisted in 4th (Extra Reserve) Bttn on 23/3/1909. He was mobilised on 8/8/1914 and joined the MEF with 11th Bttn on 24/8/1915. He returned Home on 3/1/1916.
Peter was discharged on 5/5/1916, with Frost Bite and Bronchitis aggravated by service. He later gained TB not due to service.
Peter died at his home on 2/1/1920, from Bronchitis and Cardiac Failure, aged 33. Reg Manchester Q1 1920 8d/253. Buried St Joseph's RC Cemetery, St Patrick Section 683.
Widow Agnes and sons Peter & Robert (B 1914 & 15), 2 Grove Place, Ancoats. Pension refused, despite cause of death. Mother Ann, 41 Gorton Rd, Gorton.

We need to see if there is a headstone on Peter Naughton's grave in St Joseph's and review the condition of any inscription.

Peter Naughton's inscription on the communal headstone of a public grave needs cleanining or possibly an alternative commemoration is required.
