Hello. Could you please help.
Looking for infromation on Patrick Collins
Patrick was in the 10 Manchester MGC
number 59230
I believe he was wounded in Egypt 1916/1917

Many thanks  Bill.

Bill,

According to his Medal Index Card he was a private in the Machine Gun Corps.  No mention of any Manchester Regiment Connection.

He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal only.
It appears he only served overseas from 1916 at the earliest.

Do you have any documents with '10' or "Manchester" on to further the search?

regards

harribobs

here's the card

and a link the machine gun corp on the (excellent) long long trail

i think what happened was that he enlisted into the 10th ( probably the 2/10th) but by the time he'd finished training he was transferred directly into the MGC

was he from Oldham?

Can I just add as an Oldhamer that all 3 Patrick Collins lived near to each other!!
Do you have census info on your Patrick Collins?

William

This could be very boring it's your fault Wendi
Patrick Collins of 8 st James st and Patrick Collins of 22 Beever St
are one of the same.
We are attempting find out why Patrick came to Oldham
When his three brothers joined the Lenster Reginent in Ireland
There is story in the Collins family that a relation could have been in Oldham
and Patrick came to him.
this Patrick Joseph could be the answer.

By the way the date of birth on Partrick's army papers are incorrect
it should be 1895.??

Wendi

Hi William !

Sadly we find this interesting  ;D

I can see a Patrick Collins on the 1901 Census son of Patrick & Annie, born Ireland 1892 and living in Fleetwood, but the closest one to born 1895 is born Keithley son of Bridget, is he yours?
