Frederic Bunn - Can anyone help?
« on: June 14, 2008, 04:15:00 PM »
Hi all.

I am looking for any information at all on Frederic Bunn b. 1874. I know he was with the Manchester's as this information appears on the service record of his younger brother and this 'next of kin' section was submitted in 1897. According to the 1881 census his birthplace is simply stated as being the East Indies. I realise it's not much but any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan and a Warm Welcome to the Forum  ;D

Have you investigated the National Archives?  His papers will probably be there.  Perhaps this link may help http://www.shrinkurl.org/152/

could this be Frederic?

2969 Pte. F. Bunn is shown as being in the 1st Battalion. He is buried at Fort Napier, Pietermaritzburg and his grave is marked with a metal cross. His religion is shown as Wesleyan. Strangely, he isn't listed on the 1st Battalion QSA Medal roll.

Thank you all for the information and help. I'm very grateful. It's good that I now know what happened to Fred. His two younger brothers including Charles, my Great Grandfather, both served in the Boer War and both also re-enlisted and survived the Great War. Now I can move on to their father and try and find his service records..!!

Best wishes.

Jonathan.

Hi all

After discovering my Great Uncle's last resting place at Fort Napier, Pietermaritzburg I have managed to obtain a couple of photos. I am led to believe there are a number of members of the Manchester Regiment buried here. The crosses are undergoing restoration and the name plates have been removed for cleaning. I have been promised more pictures when the name plates are refitted and hopefully all names will be transcribed for look ups etc.

is there any reason in particular as to why he is absent from the 1st Battalions QSA medal roll?
