He was the father of 2362 John Alexander Graham known as Alec. He was 23 when he was killed at the Krillia Nullah sector in Gallipoli.
Albeit Joseph was from Larnarkshire originally I believe he served and was shown as being from the Cape Colony. They were living at 23 Caroline Street, Edgeley, Stockport at the time of the war.

Could anyone establish for me whether there are any close matches for the above Joseph married to Eva Jane. I recall from my childhood that one of my great grandads was in the Boer war. Eva Jane was my Great Grandmother.
Joseph Graham disappeared off all records at the time of the war and Eva then lived with a James Mace.

I apologise in advance if this request is not in keeping with the site.

Thanks

Steve

Timberman

Thanks for your time and effort. I really am very grateful.

Could you tell me whether he would have been awarded medals even though he was Killed In Action. I don't have any awarded to him. I have found some postcards written by him to my Grandma (His sister) prior to his death. I was told that my Grandma never recovered properly after he died. I am upset that we don't have any record of his death sent home, is there anywhere I can obtain a duplicate.

Thanks again.

Hi Steve

This is the link to his Medal Index Card

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=2560959&queryType=1&resultcount=508370

Cost is £3.50

Also there is an entry on the SDGW, but I can't copy it ???
Other people will be along later that may be able to add more details for you.

Well spotted timberland !

I'm attaching it for you, Steve.

It looks like his birth is registered in Stockport in the 1st Qtr of 1892 Volume 8a Page 32.  His birth certificate should indicate his mothers maiden name.  ;)

On his MIC card it says.

(2B) Balkens
Date of entry therein 6-5-15  and his date of death is 31-5-15

What is the date of entry ???

Timberman

harribobs

date of entry is date of entry into a theatre of war

so he was killed 25 days after landing in gallipoli   :-\

Thanks Chris
I thought thats what it was, it just seemed a short time when you see it in black and white.
I'm sure there's a lot more with shorter time :(

harribobs

oh yes, there were quite a few that didn't make it to dry land.....

If there is any kind of consolation that can be had is that he was with close friends from home when it happened.

Please excuse my abject ignorance and stupidity but what does 2B mean on the medal card mean

harribobs

2B is reference to the first theatre of war he served in, in this case Gallipoli, ( the Balkans)

no excuses needed Steve, why on earth would you already know that! ;)
