manchester regiment railway men
« on: November 07, 2018, 02:58:40 PM »
hi looking to find any info on my grandfather John Murphy . I have a vague recollection that he worked at piccadilly station in the stables before joining the 7th Manchesters . Would he be listed on the railway records for Manchester Piccadilly which at that time would have been called London road.

Murph,

I see that the original bronze plaque memorial was lost during the renovation of London Road station and was replaced by a new memorial now containing 87 names and which is located on platforms 10 & 11 at Piccadilly Station.  It would seem, too, that the lost plaque also honoured some 580 men who had survived the conflict and had worked at the station.   Apparently, a photograph of the names on the missing plaque had once been taken.      Perhaps it would now be appropriate to contact the authorities at Piccadilly station and seek their help with your interesting query.    PhilipG.
