Manchester Regt. Casualties : W.W.Jones,Dooly & Co.
« on: October 25, 2018, 11:22:27 AM »
This firm recorded on its Roll of Honour twelve names of those serving in the Great War.   I note the following became casualties: -

1812 Pte. Frank Needham : 6th Manchesters  Kia 5.6.15 No known grave - recorded Helles Memorial.  He was only 18 yrs old.

24420 Pte. James S. Peach : 11th Manchesters Dow  5.10.16  Buried Contay British Cemetery.   Married.

10768 Pte. George Dauncey : 18th Manchesters  Kia  1.7.16 No known grave - recorded Thiepval Memorial.

The firm traded in the Manchester and Salford area.   It would be interesting to learn in what trade they operated.     PhilipG.

Tim,

Many thanks for this interesting info.     Interesting to me because I once worked in Leadenhall Street.   I think one of the firm's bankers is now the Royal Bank of Scotland.  With regard to Pte Needham I found it particularly sad that he was killed when only 18.    PhilipG.
