I am interested to find out about my Grandfather Hugh Stuart Greg and his brother Arthur Hyde Greg who both signed up in August 1914 in Manchester
Hugh Stuart Greg was 45 years and joined the 16th pals battalion. He was part of the Greg brothers firm joining up
Arthur Hyde Greg joined the 17 th pals battalion as medical officer at 42 years. He served through out the war.

Any information would be great to hear about

Welcome to the forum,
HS Greg was Gazetted as a Temporary Captain on 12.09.1914 and arrived in France in November 1915.

AH Greg was Gazetted as a Temporary Lieutenant on 04.01.1915, he ended his service as an Acting Major. He arrived in France in May 1915.
The London Gazette records that he was Mentioned in Despatches, Gazetted on 24.12.1917. He was  awarded the OBE in the 1919 New Years Honours list and on 12.12.1919 he was awarded the Medaille des Epidemies (en Vermeil).

Thank you
How can I find out more about AHGreg and life being a 17th battalion MO with RAMC

Is it possible to find out what was mentioned in the dispatches ?

Both men have files at the National Archives

There may be a reference to the MiD in his file but the files have been weeded. Citations for MiDs were not published in the Gazette. The local newspaper of the time may have published something.

There are also the War Diaries which can be downloaded from the NA or viewed on Ancestry or the like.

c.ck.flint,

Perhaps of interest?  The Manchester City Battalions Book of Honour includes many pages of Rolls of Honour naming those who came forward to serve their country.  In that book is a list of those who were employed by the firm you mention and who similarly served.    I note that the names of three officers are listed, perhaps partners in the firm?

They are:-           Colonel F.R.McConnel.  Com. 25th Bn. Manchester Regiment
Captain Hugh S.Greg            16th Service Bn. Manchester Regiment
                          2nd Lt.Andrew M.Moncrieff

                           Re A.H.Greg

Many years ago I had reason to contact the RAMC Museum at Keogh Barracks, Aldershot.   They were most helpful.   Their telephone number is 01252 868612.     Worth a try?    PhilipG.

My notes indicate A H Gregg did not serve overseas with 17th Bttn
Lt Arthur Hyde Greg RAMC Born Cheshire, Marlborough Coll. Trinity College, Cambs, St Thomas's Hosp. Left Bttn for Overseas service.  Comm 11/12/1914.
Lt F S Fletcher had taken over duties as MO by April 1915 and was present in the battlefield on 1/7/1916. It appears Fletcher was originally 16th Bttn MO, or possibly for Brigade.
Following one Platoon and everything around them....
