Hello Alexandra,

The 1911 Census shows George and Sarah had 2 sons and 2 daughters.  The boys were named George Washington and Sidney.  I can't see either of these two men in CWGC records.  Am I missing something?  I was tracking forward, to go back maybe...
I suspect Charlie's hypothesis of a survivor of Manchester Hill is quite strong.  https://www.themanchesters.org/Manchester%20Hill.htm
His enlisting in June 1916, would also be a strong prospect of joining through the Derby Scheme http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/a-soldiers-life-1914-1918/enlisting-into-the-army/the-group-scheme-derby-scheme/

Hi, yes...my Great Grandfather's name was Elijah Oliver not Sidney. I suppose that my Nanna having never known Sidney nor anyone from her father's family would have assumed him to be an only child

Elijah was 6 months at the time of the 1911 Census.  I'd read this as Eliz...

He was a Gas stove assembler (born 6/10/1910) with wife Hannah (Nee Sutcliffe) and 4 children incl Joyce & Lily in 1939.  They'd married at St Phillip's on 1/11/1930.

George had lived at 79 Dale St, Miles Platting when Elijah was Baptised at St Luke's.  George was then a Salesman.

Following the discussion of numbers, I think the 3...... series numbers were allocated to 3rd Bttn for training in Cleethorpes at that stage and men were then posted to other Bttns after.  This fits with the zappellin casualties of April 1916.
Following one Platoon and everything around them....

Yes, checking the information and numbers on this thread: http://themanchesters.org/forum/index.php?topic=7407.0
does show those from the 3nnnn series. I think, at that stage, with the influx due to the Derby Scheme/conscription the men went to the various training battalions where there were openings. For example, the one that I mentioned above, Albert Edward Jones 35328, began training with the 25th Battalion, and after his training went to the 3rd Battalion at Cleethorpes.

I do have a listing of those in the 35300 to 35799 range who died, as well as the names of those within 20 numbers on either side of my grandfather's number (35507), and one day, when ancestry is in free mode, will check to see if any of their service records survived, and will check when they signed up, and with what battalion they trained. Most of the dead (where ages are given) do conform to the April 7th 1916 call up for those born 1889-1896.
