Hi every one dont know if any one can help I am trying to trace my fathers (ABEL WILSON b19 july 1910 d nov1979) Regt history .
All that we know is that he served in between the wars 1927 to 1941 or 2.
He served in Palastine, mesopetamia, Ireland, and some where else in the middle east but not sure. we think he belonged to a Manchester Regt and was based in Ashton sometime in the eary 30s. and his cap badge may have had a fleur de lis on it.
Sadly my Father died in 1979 While I was serving in Belfast and as he never spoke of his time in the army I know very little of where he served or which Regt he was with the only information we have is what my sister can remember and as she was only a little baby at the time and as she is over 70 the mists of time are closing in.
We also think he was Regimental clerk/pay nco.
As I also served in Iraq, Ireland, and Cyprus and Rhodisia so i would like to make a presentation of my fathers and my regimental histories for my grand children so they dont forget thier family History Which a lot of young people seem to do now days I have also found out that my grandfather and his father  served in the 40th of foot but that is another project for the future though it would be nice to tie it all together.
Any help in tracing my Dads records would be most helpful Thank you in anticipation.

Hi Dave and a Warm Welcome to The Forum, we always love it when we get service personnel joining us  ;D

You will be happy to know that it's reasonably easy to obtain your fathers service record, and your own for that matter! The wait for deceased personnel may take several months, but it's worth it.

Much luck
Wendi  :)

...........however it would be even easier if I didn't keep the web address for the Veterans Agency a secret  ::)  you can get all the info you need to apply from here:

Hi Wendi

Thanks very much for that useful information and the very quick response. Will follow that line of inquiry and let you know if I have any joy.

Once again thanks for your help.

Your welcome Davey

It should all be reasonably straight forward, but if you have any queries, don't hesitate to ask!
