Pte Howe's was one of the first to enlist in the 2nd City / 17th Bttn on 2/9/1914.  Thomas had previousl been a Warehouseman and trained with XIII Pln of D Coy and he was transferred to 25th (Training Reserve) Bttn on 9/11/1915, the day after the rest of 17th Bttn had disembarked in France.
Thomas was discharged unfit due to unknown sickness with SWB on 12/12/1915. He died from disease on 19/2/1918, aged 36.
Buried Southern Cemetery Conc 407 on 23/2/1918.
His mother, Mrs Elizabeth Diffnall, received a Pension from 23/8/1918,  after the "Ent admtd" (Entitlement Admitted). 9 Freeman Street, Hulme.  Records don't show att agg or comm
