Can anyone help with my family research?
« on: May 27, 2008, 08:49:04 PM »
I am researching my family history and have just found on Ancestry my grandfather's brother's WWI record.  His name was Wallace Dickinson and he joined the 14th Batt on 14th Jan 1915.  His number was 16613.  At the time of enlistment he was 19 and lived in Hulme.  The document I have found on Ancestry is a copy of a Short Service Attestation.  On the second page it appears to show that he changed from the 14th batt, to the 12th in Dec 1915, then to the 3rd in September 1916 (he was injured in July 1916 in France) and then onto the 13th in November 1916.  Are these all different battalions and if so what were their different roles?  Wallace was a L/Cpl and was discharged in March 1919 after 4years and 67 days.  I have no miltary knowledge so would be grateful for your help.  Thank you  Lorraine

Wow!  I'm amazed - thank you very much for all that information.  I'm really overwhelmed and don't really know what to say.  Whilst I have got birth, marriage and cenus info on my family it is fantastic to find out something a bit more about my ancestors.
With grateful thanks, Lorraine
