Hi
Saw a notice on your site re descendants of Manchester hill soldiers in March 1918.
My grandfather was  Pte William Davies. 25225 Of 16 battallion. He was taken prisoner and taken to langensalza pow camp. He was later moved  and Interned to chateau dOex in Switzerland.
Found details  from the German records put on line by the Red Cross.  Iit seems most likely his British  service record was destroyed in Ww2. I have 3 photos, one I believe taken in the pow camp.
Most interested in knowing more about him if possible and of course what may be planned in march to commemorate the battle /tragedy?
Look forward to hearing more.

Gill.
If you look up the thread Manchester Hill Commemorations 2018 by Major Bob Smethurst you will find  detail regarding the anniversary to be held in Manchester.

Manchester City Council has commissioned two wrap-arounds to cover the Manchester Evening News issues of Friday 6th and 13th April.
Having been abroad I don't the exact detail but I understand that the four pages include a full page photo of Wilfrith Elstob, a brief history of the16th Battalion, the lives of four survivors - Charlie Heaton, Albert Rushton, Billy Davies and Thomas Norton.  The 4th page describes the activities of the pupils from 22 Manchester schools who have recently visited the battlefield and Francilley Selencey.
