on the reverse of the MIC, you'll see clasp and roses, IMHO a huge honour

the clasp is on the 1914 star, it means he served 5th August to 22nd November 1914

it was awarded to the men who first went over to france and on to belgium, fought through the retreat from Mons and finally stopping the german advance and pushing them back

the british army was very close to being destroyed, but they weren't, they were The Old Contemptibles  ;)

Hello Malcolm
Welcome.
There are 25 entries on the CWGC site for a F. Waters but none where in the Manchester Regiment.
Nothing on the SDGW site either.
I checked to make sure none of the 25 where attached to the Manchester's as well.

Hope this can save you some time

This is the entry for the only E Waters on the CWGC site in the Manchester's

Thanks for that Timberman, there is a Fred Percy Waters on the war memorial in Altrincham which ties up with the one on the CWGC this must be the one from my family. Yes Ernest was also one of the brothers.

Hi Malcolm,

I've just been given some wonderful information.

My Grandfather Ernest Waters was the brother of Frederick Percy Waters (RAMC)

Hi ........... first time in ages I have looked at this site and blow me I have a contact. Ernest and Frederick Percy RAMC  were brothers to my Great Grand father Charles (who survived ww1) and other siblings I have all the details.

My Ernest Alfred Waters had a service no G/33438 ........... we may have a different Ernest although it was not uncommon for numbers to change

born 1893,
