Hello everybody. I was just wondering if anyone out there can help me. I was recently asked by a friend to research the army service of an elderly lady's father. I don't have much to go on, but any information whatsoever which members of this forum could provide would be of great importance to the lady in question. Basically, she is trying to piece together his service record (which he presumably never talked about).

Her fathers name was John Lane and he was born on 15/8/1899. His service number was 57951 and he was apparently in the Manchester Regiment. I have no idea which battalion he served in, or whether the lady still has her fathers medals (again presuming that he did, in fact receive some). I would hazard a guess that he could well have served towards the end of The Great War, although thus far I have no proof of this. If anybody could possibly help I would be very grateful indeed.

Thanks.

John served overseas in 2nd Bttn according to his Medal Roll.  I can't find anything else.  If you find his parents names, this may provide some help (was it James & Francis Sophia?)

Cheers Tim,

That's great it definitely gives me something to go on. I'll ask my friend if she can find out the names of his parents, that way we may have a breakthrough. Brill.

Thanks!
