Philip,
I agree with your explanation of the photo in the other thread. I thought it best to start a new one.

I think this one is a clearer one of the Savy - Francilly Selency area. The light area in the bottom right hand corner could be Brown Quarry, directly to the east is a darker area, could this be Manchester Hill?

Follow the link and use the zoom top left, the photo is then much clearer.

Charlie,

Firstly, thank you for your efforts.

I have pored over this photograph for some considerable time, as I am sure you have, too, but I have been unable, with confidence, to say that I can pick out Manchester Hill etc.  The photo seems to finish just above the location we want to see.

I have orientated my 1987 1:25000 map and it fits perfectly with the lower right hand segment of the photo.   The former grassed over D683 I can pick out, but the photo falls just short of the D68 which passes through Maison Rouge (Manchester Hill), an area for which we are searching.   I am really disappointed with my lack of success, but even with WW2 photo interpretation devices, I don't think I would have been able to pick out what was needed.   Oh for a photo upon which "The Halte" is depicted.  PhilipG.

Philip,
Thank you for your opinion and I must say I agree with you. My eyes are probably are sore as yours from looking at photos. I have gone through the IWM, McMaster and Landesarchiv Baden-Würtemberg collections all without success. I have found a few of Savy and/or Francilly Selency but they all seem to finish a few hundred yards short of being able to give a definitive answer. I cannot believe that there are not any photos of the Hill. I'll keep searching.

Charlie,

Thanks.  As a "winding down" exercise, I thought I would locate the contents of the area at the bottom left hand corner of the photo.    Where it says "Roisel" I came up with the answer of Vermand, with the straight road going upwards towards the top of the photograph as being the Roman Road leading through the "Bois d' Holnon".    Just a thought.   PhilipG.
