Hi All,

Thanks so much for accepting me.

I've recently been tracing my ancestry on various websites and admittedly struggled at times to find related information.

I have found out that my Grandfather Thomas Waters was assigned to the 14th Btn based initiallly at Ashton Under Lyne.  On his Short Service Attestation his Soldier Number was 36887 but then changed to 12922.  He was only registered for approx 2 years around 1915-1917.

I understand he was classed as a reservist and I don't think he actually serve as such and possibly linked to the Railway Infrastructure.   I was wondering if you could give me any 'pointers' as to where I can find out anything further about him.

Afterwards I do know he did go over to Ireland in 1920 and served in the Free State Army in Cork and again linked to the Railways.

I would appreciate and be grateful of any assistance you may be able to offer as unfortunately he died prior to my birth.

Thanks in anticipation.  Karen Pollard

hiya Karen
your grandfather was in the 14th manchesters, this battalion later became the 14th training reserve battalion,he was placed in class W on 31-5-1917,class W is war work,he was finally discharged on 26-12-17 as no longer fit for service but liable for a future medical if his health returned.

Welcome to the forum Karen,
in case you didn't know your Grandfather didn't serve overseas. Did you find his attestation papers on Ancestry? If so could you post a link please.

Hi Mack,

Thanks for responding.

Do you have any idea where I can find what he or is his Batallion actually did or got involved with although I appreciate if they were reserves it's unlikely to be much

I really would appreciate any help to enlighten me of his time with the Manchesters.

Thanks a million...Karen

Hi Charlie,

I guessed as much but would still like to see what he got up to.

I've attached his attestation papers as requested which I found on Ancestry.

Much obliged...Karen

Karen,
Thanks for posting the records, I still can't find him on Ancestry ???

Unfortunately training establishments did not keep diaries, the locations of the 14th Bn are recorded here
