Lt John D STEVENSON

I am wondering if anyone has any information on  2nd Lt [and later Lt] John D Stevenson who served with the Manchester in Singapore and was a POW at Nong Pladuk. He demobbed after the war then subsequently rejoined [Worcester Rgt?] then later transferred to the Army Catering Corps. I am specifically trying to see if there is any information available while he was in Singapore then his time as a POW

Thank you so much Charlie. This adds new information for us. One thing I am having a challenge with is I thought he was with 1st Battalion, but MR1/3/1/15 [e-m [email protected]] states he was 2nd Battalion as follows:

Lieutenant J. D Stevenson was the Battalion Signal Officer for the 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment. He was directly responsible for 20 signallers under him, and indirectly 34 signallers in the infantry companies. This was taken once more from MR1/3/1/15

Iain,

Only the 1st Bn. were at Singapore and taken POW by the Japanese.

the reference must be incorrect.

Charlie: Wondering if you can shed light on whether there was another "Lt Stevenson" with 1st Bn at the fall of Singapore?
I have now seen some references to a Lt M.O. Stevenson with 1st Bn Manchester at the same time and wondering if this is correct? My father was J.D. Stevenson and I had been unaware of another Lt Stevenson [Lt M.O. Stevenson] until this year.

Iain,
There was indeed a MO Stevenson with the 1st Bn, he was also taken at Singapore.

Iain,
Lt M O Stevenson - Lived at "Sylvans", Tilford, Farnham, Surrey and appears at some stage to have traveled "overland" to work on the railway (no date shown on record).
Lt J D Stevenson - shown as coming from NSW, Australia. Sent "overland" on 5 November 1942.
