My Grandfather, John Hardy Haigh was in the Tenth Manchester Battalion. He served in Gallipoli, survived and was transferred to the RFC on 23/08/1916 as a mechanic 3rd class.  I have his cap badges, his RFC epaulettes, his RFC cap badge, and his Sam Brown belt, as well as an assortment of bullets, his medals, and a Turkish coin. I wish to know if there is any more info to be had, especially regarding his move to the RFC. Anyone got any ideas?

Hello Ashley, Welcome to the forum.

Your Grandfather enlisted into the 10th Bn on 23.09.1914. Judging by his date of entry into the Gallipoli theatre of operations - 23.07.1915,  he was one of the 200 re-enforcements under Lt Spielmann posted from the 2/10th to the 1/10th. They embarked on the Ionian at Southampton on 03.07.1915, arrived in Malta on 12.07.1915 and before reaching Gallipoli on 22.07.1915 they had spent 5 days tied up at Alexandria. They landed at Gully beach under Turkish shell fire.

As you already know your Grandfather transferred to the RFC on 23.08.1916. He was employed as an 2AM Electrician. He was transferred, with the rest of the RFC to the RAF on it's formation on 01.04.1918. His RAF rank was 3AM. His RAF service record should be available on "Find My Past".
