Having visited the CWGC at Deville Wood, Longueval, France,  I came across the grave of Pte 4894 W. SELLS.  Manchester Regiment killed 18/8/1916.
I wondered if he was related to my family in any way.
Mr. Norman Sells

Hello  Norman,
Welcome to the forum. Have you more information as to why you think William Sells may be related to you? May I suggest you start a thread in the 1914-18 section stating what you know and we will do our best to help.

Hi Norman,
William Sells has a Special Memorial, which means he is believed to have been buried at Delville Wood, but his remains could not be identified during the battlefield clearance.  Strangley the concentration record indicates W Sell and two members of 1/LNL were buried near to the present London Cemetery & Extension next to High Wood.  Their remains could not be found when the exhumation party dug up the graves.  This suggests his commemoration may be in the wrong cemetery.

William Sells was a member of 2/7th Bttn attached to the LNL.  He arrived in France after Dec 1915 and was probably drafted to the LNL soon after his arrival.  His mother was Margaret Sells. Poss Father Edward (Deceased) and Sister Mary Ellen, resident 9 Chapelfield Road Ardwick. Born Q2 1896, so just turned 20.

When we know more about your relatives, we may make a connection.  Interesting to see the anomoly any way.

Tim
