Hello to everybody   ive joined to trace my great great grandad william Simms  23887   who died 14/10/17 a member of 11th batalion but on his plaque it stated salford machine gunners  can anyone help please

What do you mean by "plaque" as Death Plaques only have a persons name on?

Hi Robert, your grandfather died during the Battle of Poelcapelle on 4th October 1917 (not 14th). This was a major action in which the 11th battalion took part. Sgt Harry Coverdale (11th Bn) won the VC on this day. After Xmas I'll try to provide more info on the battle.
