Not the kind we like .... yet !!  but I'm working on it Wendi !! 

Oh ! .... I also should have mentioned Salford Diocesan Archives and the Leeds Diocesan Archives as the Archivist there wrote a book about Chaplains and just on the "off chance " he might have known something about St Francis - I asked if there was any documentation that he knew of !!

Nada ......... zilch ........ !!

You know Mack .... I understand what you're saying .... but does it really matter if a few of "us" Protestants have snuck in there .... these boys probably all played football together !!

There were a few shrines around Gorton also ... and they have gone missing too ... even John Hartley pounding the streets couldn't find them .... all lost to "progress " ... I know they were there - people remember them .... but they can't be found !

I'd appreciate any other ideas of places to look ....... !!

i do know what your saying me darlin.
5 years ago,i started to compile a roll of all those who died from my home town,i got some stony responses from various church people.
things like.he aint from our church or try somewhere else,i felt like i had done something wronge.
i have noticed that you have gathered togethor those from the parish of st.francis.
ITS a beautiful tribute,and i like the way that you have laid it out.

To be really honest Mack - nobody gives a "rip" anymore - the Monastery isn't a Monastery ... it's a Convention Center 
and apart from a few dedicated people who would like to leave some kind of legacy regarding the Franciscans themselves .... there isn't a whole heck of a lot of enthusiasm !!  whatever is done to try and keep the memory alive of a few men and soldiers who died years ago - will probably not be noticed in the broad scheme of things !!

But just the fact that it's being done .... gives meaning to those men and their time here !

The missing shrines from around Gorton might be in the council yard on Ashton Old Road.There is a lot of storage space, things that have been removed from buildings over the years were stored there.

Thank you all for being so nice ....... it's coming along as they say !! .... quite a bit of refining to do ..... but I'm so glad I started it .... I wasn't sure at first .... being the "dufuss" I am ..... but one of the guys on Roots found that website which is ideal for "dummies " and I'm thrilled at how much easier it was than I thought

Hi Annie. just wanted to add that we have quite a few Grave photos on our War Graves link I didn't look at all of them. Cuckoo Passage jumped out with having just been there on Saturday. In fact it was quite a strange experience. I was driving, the sun was glorious and I drove with four of us in the car. Up the dirt track I went. This was unusual to be honest, on the few cemeteries I have been too they have been normal access. I realised as I went further up the track that it was one of about 5 cemeteries around a massive expanse of fields. Well it was the farthest one away. As I got into the copse on the hill. It was so boggy that I got bogged down. I tried to reverse slowly up a slight ramp that led to the cemetery. I got stuck diagonally across the track as the car moved sideways in the mud. The front end was stuck. My poor husbands  face was a picture. I figured I may be joining these poor chaps up the ramp! I left him to it, along with our friend to get us out!! I trotted up the hill and took the photos. Thankfully they got it out. We were all touched by the mud that surounded the small graveyard. I tried to get this on the personal photos of the cemetery. The chaps have their pant legs rolled up.
What those poor men must have gone through. Here we were on a beautiful autumnal day stuck in mud. We knew we would get out some how.
Here I am to prove it.
I found it especially moving at the difficulty we had in the mud. It took ages to get off. The tyres were still full of it back in Calais.
