Hello Everyone,
What an interesting and helpful forum. Stayed up for hours last night reading as many as possible of the past postings - only gave up when my eyes refused to stay open any longer!
Originally from South Wales, my great uncle Philip Jones (160  2nd Battn.) was apparently working as a butler at "Lacey Holm", Wilmslow when he enlisted in 1914. Prior to this he was  chauffeur to John Stafford Nuttall at Royton, his wife being employed as cook (very "Downton Abbey"  :) )
He was a reservist when he volunteered in 1914. Sadly he was killed in August of the same year, during the retreat from Mons.
Have posted details of a query I have regarding this under another thread, but would be grateful for any further information, including anything about where or when he was enrolled as a reservist, and about "Lacey Holm" (the inverted commas are on his Informal Will, so I presume it is the name of a large house near Lacey Green or perhaps a cottage on an estate, but I can't find the name on any large scale early OS maps).
Looking forward to reading the rest of the postings tonight   :)
