Hi

My name is Susan Walker and I am researching my grandfather, Jesse James Wilkinson.

I am actually researching my grandfather’s Military Medal award. He was Corporal Jesse James Wilkinson, his military number was 51625, and he was in the 1/7th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment.

Could someone please tell me how I go about getting a copy of a citation for a Military Medal (MM) awarded in the first World War. We have got hold of the MM Award Notice from the National Archives, but it does not include the citation. I have also read that citations for the Military Medal were not published in the London Gazette. Is this true?

Any help will be very gratefully received.

Thanks!

Sue

Sue,

Citations for MM's in WW1 were not published and are therefore very difficult to find out for what they were awarded.

there are several avenues still open though.

Local newspapers are the best along with Battalion War Diaries and Regimental Histories.
