Any information on Private James Nuttall 28013 20th Manchester Regiment killed on 12/1/1917 and buried at Doullens.
Sorry but that is the only information I have.
I am particularly interested in whether he was previously wounded and at what hospital he was at.

james was in the 24th manchesters not the 20th,he was hit in the head by shrapnel on 11-1-1917 which exposed his brain,he was taken to 23rd field ambulance and then to 3rd Canadian gen hospital at doullens where he died the following day
previously he had contracted trench fever on 23-6-16 and sent to 12th gen hospital at Rouen,he was then sent to England on the hospital ship western Australia on 1-7-16
he was a battalion bomb thrower

Hi Mack

Thanks so much for the information, that helps a lot.
I have an autograph book with a list of signatures of soldiers from various regiments and James Nuttall has 20th Manchester regiment against his name hence my error. I'm guessing that he was wounded and sent back to England to recover and thats where the young lady's autograph book was signed, perhaps she was a nurse? It narrows down the time period to the latter part of 1916 when he was back in England. He was in the same hospital as John James Davenport of the 2nd (later 11th) manchesters who also signed the book (see my other thread in this section).
Any idea where I could find out more information on hospitals in England where they might have been sent?.
Thanks again for your help, this really is a fantastic resource - great work!

Cheers
Glenn
