Hello Jimbo,
Welcome to the forum.
Mack is right. He was also held at the PoW camp in Soltau, he was registered there on the 6th May 1918. He had suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg. For the day your Great Uncle was captured, the Battalion War Diary states that there were between 15 and 20 Other Rank casualties.

Mack Charlie thanks to you both. I know the papers tell lies but that was all I had. I did look through the site and found info under the pow section and it does show him captured on 21/3/18 and another saying he was in London gen hosp  Camberwell 7/9/18, so he was then home on 6/12/18 from London. It took me a while to translate the info from German to English but I now have more info on him. I know he lost a leg as my cousin knew him well.
How do I access the war diaries? I do not live in Glossop anymore and it would take me 3 hrs to travel.
Thanks again

charlie

The War Diary can be downloaded from the National Archives for a small fee
