With the imminent centenary of the Battle of the Somme, I am honoured to announce that extracts from the diaries of Charlie May will be read at the overnight vigil at Westminster Abbey on 30 June and again the next morning, 1 July, at the Thiepval Memorial.   Thanks to all of you for your assistance in making the book a success.

I am doing a talk/reading/signing event at Watersone's, Kensington at 7.00 pm on Thursday, 16 June, when I will be interviewed by Hugh Sebag Montefiore who has a book just out with Penguin called Somme: Into the Breach.  Some kind person has apparently put something on Twitter.

I am doing a second, similar event at Waterstone's, Deansgate, Manchester at 2.00 pm on Saturday 18 June.

You are most welcome to either.  If you attend, please introduce yourself.  And if anyone who does Twitter and Facebook (I haven't a clue) wishes to contribute, please feel free.

Gerry.
That's really great news.  Top marks to you for having produced such an interesting volume and how pleasing for all of us in the forum to know that a brave soldier of the Regiment is to be remembered in the ceremonies in London and Thiepval.

Good luck with both

Gerry,
It's wonderful that Charlie May's words are being brought to the world's attention in such significant places.  Also great recognition of your project.  Make sure you have ink in your pen to sign my copy of your book next week.

What can I say?   The Manchester Regiment Forum greatly helped to produce this book.

I can say something more - Kensington gig has been cancelled.  Apparently competition from the weather, the football and the holiday season.  I am now worried about Manchester.  They are not answering calls - very ominous...
I guess this is for Tim Bell but I don't know which he had planned to attend.  Gerry
