Hi,
I am researching my great-grandfather, Patrick Ogan. We believe he enlisted in the Regiment in 1889, but can't confirm this. The family story is that he joined up in India, and I wondered if this was true because I don't know why he would have been there rather than his home country, Ireland. Would be grateful for any advice. Thank you

Hello,

2570 Private Patrick OGAN is confirmed as being in the 2nd Bn. Manchester Regiment.

He would have joined the 1st Bn Manchester Regiment who in 1889 were at Tiperary but after training, as was often the case, got shipped out to the 2nd Bn. in India.

Thats all I can tell you I am afraid.

regards
