Lieutenant James Macfie : Manchester Regiment
« on: August 24, 2015, 04:14:04 PM »
This officer was a partner in a firm of Manchester solicitors.  In June 1915 he was commissioned in the Manchester Regiment and later sent to India where he was promoted to the rank of Major in the Indian Army Reserve of Officers, in due course becoming an Assistant Judge Advocate - General Southern Command India.  Clearly, his legal background assisted him in taking up this prestigious appointment.  In view of the research carried out by Robert Bonner in his book on the 1st Garrison Battalion Manchester Regiment in India, one wonders if Macfie's pathway to this legal appointment originally involved a posting to this Garrison battalion?   (See also recent Lt. Bruce Humfrey 1st Garrison Bn. - Manchester Regt. post).  PhilipG.
