Hi,

I have just noticed in an old posting that a Manchesters Museum in Leigh was mentioned. Please can anyone tell me if this is still open, as I can't find out anything about it, and I am planning to visit the town when I return to the UK this summer, as it is where my great uncle, 2nd Lt Philip Ward, 17th Bn came from.

Thanks,
Steve

G.company 5th manchesters had a drill hall at leigh, but no manchesters museum, you could check out leighs local studies library, they have transcribed all the ww1 newspapers, theres bound to be something about 2/Lt ward, worth a check.

Steve, I have the index of the Leigh Journal in Excel form. Did your great uncle live in Henrietta Street, Leigh? If yes, there are articles about him on pages 4 and 6 of the 1918 edition of the Journal.

Ward, Philip - Henrietta St, Leigh - Pages 4, 6 - 1918

If you write a polite email to the Leigh Local Studies and explain that you live overseas I'm sure they'll send them to you. I've sent you a message with the email address of Leigh Studies.

Good hunting
Pete

Thanks Pete, the address I have for the family home is on Union St, which is off Henrietta St. I have just written to Leigh Local Studies Centre, but if possible would you mind sending me a copy of the excel file please?

Thank you again for your help, this is a great forum!
