Hi All,
I recently met Paul Smyth's grandaughter, Barbara, and hope to share some of his bits and bobs on the forum, with the hope I may provide the family with fresh records.
Paul was originally a Pt in Middx Regt, going to Egypt and back in 1915. He was then Commissioned in Manchesters and arrived in France in August 1916. He stayed with the Battalion until wounded on 31st July 1917 in the 3rd Battle for Ypres. He is mentioned in the wounded list of the Official Record.
Here's Barabara's site for Paul Smyth's art.
http://www.finchleygallery.com/the-artist.htm He made some great sketches of Ypres and the surrounds.
I'll add some bits as I go, particularly from his 1916 Diary, but if anyone has some gems I can report, please let me know.
T
