Hi Jonathan

I have emailed you a copy of Annie & John's wedding certificate (the one to which mack refers)

I am now happy that Annie's maiden name was Edmundson/Edmondson  and the Cheshire Marriage 1896-1899 is for 2 other people, not your Annie.

Thank you Mack and Wendi....both of you are amazing.

Best wishes
Jonathan.

Wendi, I have just looked again at the certificate you sent.....John was a widower on there to, there is another wife somewhere.

This is becoming very interesting.

I applied for his wedding cert. to my Gt Grandma Beatrice Whitehead(13th Sept 1905) and to my surprise I found out he was a widower.

You knew that, or you said you did  ;D

I knew he was a widower on the marriage certificate of his marriage to Beatrice Whitehead which I presume means Annie Lee but on the certificate you have sent me, his marriage to Annie Lee he is also a widower. Which I take means he was married to someone before Annie.

Thanks
Jonathan

I've lost my concentration  ::) of course it does!

The 1891 Census shows him as single, 1901 as Widower, so somewhere in that period he married and his wife died.  :-\

Do we know which Battalion he was in?

So the probability is he got married in the UK but his wife could have died abroad.  You need to check the overseas death records for the death of a ???? Neild and if you can - excuse the pun - marry them up to a wedding here for John with the same first name.

The overseas death indexes are on findmypast.co.uk some of the members on here have subscriptions to that site.
