Very sad to learn of the death of my old friend and comrade. John was Adjutant of the  9th Battalion in 1954/5.  He was commissioned in the Manchester Regiment in 1947, serving with the 1st Battalion in Rhine Army and Malaya.  As Lieutenant Colonel commanded the Lancastrian Volunteers between September 1970 and December 1972.  Appointed OBE in 1972.  Later as a full Colonel was the British Defence Advisor in Baghdad from May 1976.  Retired from the army in 1981.
