Need some help re Malaya period
« on: September 08, 2014, 06:47:57 PM »
Hello,

I am looking at some documents relating to the Manchester Regiment around the time of Malaya and need some help from those of you who were around at that time if possible please.  Could you tell me where or what the following were:-

1.  Adjutant at Goslar 1946?

2.  Company Command TAC course.  What is TAC?

3.  Lancs Brigade Training Centre 1948 - 1951 period.  Where was it?

4.  ADM Course, Singapore 1949?

Any help much appreciated.

regards.

Hi their Sphinx,
Basically I can firstly confirm my old sparring partner Yoser on No 2.

No 1 -  no idea - I had only joined the 1st Bn in November 1949 at Wupperpal  having completed my PYTHON and had to transfer to another Lancs Bde Unit - UK was literally crawling with all of the spare bods of infantryman of all ranks who had more than six months service to go , anyone with more that that amount were given (?) the option choosing from of one of the rest of their Brigade counterparts remembering that most of the Indian Regiments had to disband their 2nd Battalions following the Partition of India and Pakistan.

2, Company Command TAC Course - TAC basically still,  as far as I believe, Tactical Commanders Course - Company Platoon Movements on the Field - usually held at Warminster or School of Infantry .

3, Yoser has answered.

4. ADM Course , Singapore , 1949 - Remembering WW11 had finish, numerous problems still existed particularly in Singapore, riots over the Dutch girls and their families following their release from the Nips. in October 1948 Chin Peng and his merry men went on the Rampage from October 1948, burning Rubber plantations and murdering Planters and Policemen etc - all basically NEW to the Army at that time and presumably these Administration  Courses were formulated possibly down In Nee Soon Garrison or Selarang Barracks.

Hoping that detail satisfied your queries, of not ask further and will try to oblige.

George.

George,

So as I see it from what you have said,

TAC = Tactical

ADM = Administrative.

Thanks for that, it makes more sense now

My good & trusted comrades have given you most of the answers.  I can tell you that Captain Colin Eastaugh was the Adjutant in Goslar.
He continued as Adjutant through Dunham Park and Wuppertal until handing over to Captain Robert Clutterbuck in Wuppertal.

At this stage Artyhughes could happily continue.  But  that's another story!!

Thanks for that Bob,
Would that 'other story' perchance read something like -

"Giddy up -  we're homeward bound - OR  - And a little man shall lead them - on a brown horse".
