Sniper0745

Hi All,

Here is the last WW2 Manchester Regt lad i have on the Congleton War Memorial and i am hoping that you guys will be able to tell me a little more about him.

Forster, Norman, 1st Btn Manchester Regt, died 3/10/43
'F Force'  sent to the railroad on 26.04.1943.
Died of Beri-beri at Tambaya Hospital, Burma, at 22:46 hours.
Originally buried in grave 377.
Now buried at Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery, Burma,  grave B6. N. 12.

What i'm really after is his background, like when did he join the Regt, where did he do his training, when did he arrive in Singapore and on what ship. If anyone has a copy of his POW record card that would be awesome as well.

Regards
Mike

His background is available in the Enlistment Books at Tameside Local Studies Library.
Just drop them an email.

Re Norman Foster -
There is a book " Men Such as These - by Charlie Frisby - 1997 - ISBN 1  85751  365  4 "which should be available from a Library which will give you much information of his life with Force F from their move From Changi up to a Three Pagoda Pass, Burma and covers the period in which Norman Foster died, it is well worth reading of the life of those POW's.

It should also be available from or at the Museum .
All the best,
George.

Thanks George, I'll see if i can get hold of a copy. I have read everything they say about 'F' Force on the COFEPOW website and they certainly went through a real harrowing time on the Burma railroad.

Mike
