Help with Information about Cyril Quarmby
« on: May 28, 2014, 07:23:19 PM »
Can anyone help me find any information about my Grand Father Cyril Quarmby. I know he was in the Manchester Regiment from 12/11/1925 to 27/12/42 and then he was transferred to the Middlesex Regiment and from there the Pioneer Corps until just after the end of the war. I know this as I have his Demob papers. I know his service number and I know that during his time he was ranked as P/ L/CPL.

The only thing I know is that he apparently went to Dunkirk. Apart from this I know nothing as he refused to talk about his army career.

I cant get access to his records as I am not his next of kin and I am only his youngest Grand-daughter. Any help would be appreciated in finding anything out or being pointed in the right direction.

Kind Regards,

Rachel Quarmby

Rachel.
You are in luck! there are basic details of your Grandfather in the Enlistment Books which are held in the regimental archives in Tameside Library.  His reference is on Page 185 in MR4/6/5/32.
You will either have to go there or make an arrangement with the Archivist.
Good luck with your search.

Is this his number for the Royal Pioneer Corps 3520939.

Do you know which Pioneer Company he was with.

This was the regiment number that was on his forms when he was demobbed.
I'm actually at the library now but cannot find my grandad at the moment :-(

Hello there,

I managed to locate my grandad in the regimental archives. He was in mr4/6/5/10. Managed to find out he was in the Territorials, Nothing on what battalion he was in. I do know he was at Dunkirk.

Unfortunately, I know nothing of his time with pioneer corps at the moment except the dates he served with them and that he was demobbed from there.

Thanks

Rachel
