[/b]I am looking for a collector who bought a collection from Don Bradshaw before he died last year (2013).   In his collection he had this Christmas menu, I happened to see it in the Manchester Pals book which was written by Michael Stedman.  (Page 150 in yellow paperback & page 160 in the hardback)

The first name on the card is my grandfather Signal Sgt George Royle, I would love to see the original & talk to the collector that now has it.   My father is 90 years young & he would really love to take a look at it, unfortunately my father was only 10 years old when his father, my grandfather died from the effect of mustard gas poisoning.

Please, if anyone can help I would really appreciate it.   Thanks.

djjeff,

I knew Don very well for many years before his death and we would spend hours discussing the Manchester Regiment's badges, and history.

He always had a large collection of militaria, mostly badges, for many Lancashire regiments throughout his collecting career, selling each off to fund the next.

He stopped collecting to the Manchester Regiment in 2003, selling his badges then.

He started to collect Scottish badges for the last 10 years of his life.

He may have had some Manchester bits of ephemera amongst his papers at the time of his tragic and untimely death, but I never saw the said menu.

I would imagine that he disposed of it between 1994 when the Steadman book was published and before 2003.

sorry.

regards

Thanks, when I was in contact with Michael Stedman he mentioned to me that Don sold the menu along with some other items not long before he died.   So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for your info.

Following the thread on two F Aldous, I also note two George Royles identified on the Signal Section menu for Xmas lunch 1916.  Di's Grandad was awarded DCM & MM and I think the other George also won medals for valour or MiD.

I was terribly confused reading LG and M Stedman's book.  Nothing new there (not the book).

If anyone has access to M.E.N. articles, it would be interesting to see what was published about the two Georges.
