Hello,

I have been researching a WW2 medal group to Abraham Newman who enlisted in the Manchester Regt in 1940 & served 4 years with No. 6 Commando.

I have his papers and pretty much know all about him and his war service.

However what I cant do is trace his parents, and am hoping that someone with better geneological skills than me can help.

He was born 6.1.1913 at Strangeways/Salford and by 1940 until his death in 2000 lived in Prestwich. He had a sister with a first name beginning with 'B'.  He was a furniture upholsterer.  Changed his first name to Andrew during WW2.  The family were Jewish.

His mother was called Sarah and an older relative (I think) his father was Morris (Pte. 50872 Lancashire Fusiliers, in WW1).

His parents are from either Austria or Russia (2 differing accounts in his papers).

Any census information or immigration details gratefully received as I have had no luck.

Hope you can assist.

regards

Atherton

Just had a quick look, it appears his mothers maiden name was Tissenhouse, had another child born 1911 named Mendal, will carry on looking, Regards Wayne
