Hello,

Does anyone remember a 3529541 Pte. Frank BELLIS, a Territorial soldier from WW2 and the 1950's.
I am trying to find out which Battalion he was with?

regards

Sphinx,
I have vague recollections of a Cpl Bellis in 3 Platoon "A" Company, with 2nd Lt 'Tony' Davies and Sgt Bill McClure, gets a mention and photograph page 38 Jungle Bashers. Bill was a close friend of mine, ex-paras WW2 - last remember him down at Brentwood as C/Sgt. Unfortunately not another mention of Cpl Bellis anywhere at all in the book.
It is somewhat strange that  obviously - a pre war soldier.still serving as a  Cpl in Malaya and yet not remembered by anyone ?? Come on now dig deeper into those memory banks everone. ??? ???
No one having a pre-war number like that can just disappear  ;D ;D

Here's hoping that something turns up.

George.

PS. The more I think about this, is it/was it possible that on his mobilisation in 1938/39 could he have been part of a training Bn in UK ? Perhaps again in 1941/42 following the  collapse of Singapore and the loss of the intended 1st Bn cadre enroute to UK with the bombing of the ship they were on in that area - was he possibly part of the newly formed 1st Bn developed in the UK and ultimately stayed with it right through Europe until the '50s  hence to Malaya.?? Might well be worth investigating the early developments of that??

wasnt there a CQMS bellis 1st battalion in A.coy at kroh camp in 1951 under major roberts command

Yes indeed Mack.

No connection to the other one - Harry was a later entry possibly around about 1944/5; cannot remember his number but never saw any Stars on his rack

Harry Bellis was a Weapon Training Sgt in Wuppertal and Berlin,.- with the Rifle Team - got made CQMS Malaya, then WO2 Minden and later WO1 (RSM) Brentwood, took over with the Amalgamation, again as RSM and later retired as Major.

Any one who reads and remembers may wonder how 'gently' I have treated him, hey ho  ;D ;D ;D

Mack.
Where do you get your infm from!! You're quite correct.  Harold Bellis was the CQMS of B Company at Kroh. Later to become the Regimental Sergeant-Major - nothing to do with the Cpl Bellis of A Company.
There was also Sgt Frank Johnson. The company commanded by Major HT Roberts  - with yours truly as 2i/c.  Also at Kroh another two distinguished members of the forum in the shape of 'George.the shed' and Roy H.

Bob,
I assumed that the error "A" was a TYPO hence I didn't comment on that fact ;D ;D.
