Hi

I have an old letter from WW2 - whilst most of the letter can be read, some ink stains mean that part of the letter has been ruined and as such, there is no name on the letter. It reads as though it is from a close family friend of relative from Manchester, so I am assuming he is serving in the Manchester Regiment....

The letter is dated 3.11.45 and his regiment number is: 1533821.

In the letter he says he will be home soon and having done nearly 7 years in the Army, he should have plenty of money.

I am intrigued to find out who this person is - do I have enough information......

Thanks

Nikki

Nikki,

His number is from a large block allocated to the Royal Artillery.

It is not a Manchester Regiment number.

Men from the Manchester area did not just join their local Regiment, they joined RAF, RN and lots of different army regiments and corps.

Hi

Thank you for clearing that up.

Are you saying with the number quoted, I cannot use that to trace who he personally is?

Nikki,

Probably not on this website, that specialises in the Manchester Regiment, no.
