Hi everyone, I have just joined the Manchester Regiment Group Forum. I am very much looking forward to learning from and also contributing to the discussions. By way of introduction my name is Andrew Monkhouse, I'm currently 52 and I have lived in Adelaide South Australia for the past 19 years, but I grew up in the village of Sutton-in-Craven near Skipton in North Yorkshire.

A couple of years ago I researched and created profiles on all 40 of the names listed on the Sutton-in-Craven Great War memorial. These profiles can be viewed on the Sutton-in-Craven Village website under the 'Local Information' tab called 'The Fallen of Sutton-in-Craven'

http://www.sutton-in-craven.org.uk/sicmemorial.asp

I am currently involved in a new project identifying additional 'Fallen' Great War servicemen from Sutton-in-Craven who were/are not commemorated on the village war memorial. So far around 15 additional names have come to light and the village Parish Council has already given the green light for a matching Additional Name Plaque in bronze to be added to the plinth of the Cross in Sutton Park to finally remember these local heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is anticipated that the new Name Plaque will be unveiled in August of next year to represent the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War.

In addition I have been an avid medal collector over the past 25 years or so. I used to collect anything & everything British and Commonwealth and at one point had accumulated well over a thousand medals. These days I have restricted my collecting interests to two main themes:

•   Medals to my family surname of Monkhouse
•   Casualty medals to the Sutton-in-Craven war memorial and to several village war memorials within the immediate vicinity of Sutton.

So with that I'll sign off for now and am looking forward to becoming an active participant of this Forum. Best Regards, Andrew
