Thanks to Harribobs for helping me to log in. What an informative site! I have already been able to find out the basic dates for the 20th's transferrals on this site .I have found which company (C) and platoon X11 from your photo project for Joseph Pearson. Joseph was my husband's grandfather, a draughtsman who survived the war. He joined in Jan 1915, enrolment no. 18263. We know he was wounded but have no details. His discharge certificate is dated Jan 1st 1919 but I assume that  date was for all? If anyone has any info. this beginner would be grateful. Excuse my ignorance, but where do you acquire the battalion diaries?

There is an interesting entry on his Medal Index Card

"List of claims subtd by Secy Air Ministry for awards 1914-15 Star services in War Areas under War Office."

Did you have knowledge that he worked for the Air Ministry before joining up?

Thank you Wendi for welcome and info. We know that Joseph worked after the war at Farnborough as draughtsman on aircraft. Could it be that his employer after the war, the government, ie Air Ministry, would have been the channel for him to claim the medal? (which we have). It was given for his army service. I know that he met his wife down in Surrey and they were married in 1917. The wedding photo show him in uniform.We wondered whether he had been in hospital in that area. I tried to use the free access  available now on Ancestry and cannot find Joseph Pearson , the correct one, despite having his Little Brown Book with correct info.
Any more details greatly appreciated.  Cambria

put his first name and surname
then in key words just put Manchester

About five names down is his Medal index card

Can't see any other records for him.

Hi Cambria,

I lifted this from The National Archives which describes the Medal as :

Authorised in 1918, the 1914/15 Star was awarded to personnel who saw service in France and Flanders from 23 November 1914 to 31 December 1915, and to personnel who saw service in any other operational theatre from 5 August 1914 to 31 December 1915.

This would mean that he served in France or Flanders between these dates, presumably at the behest of The Air Ministry (or their predecessor) as they were not formed until 2nd Jan. 1918

The  1914-15 star medal would be stamped  on the back who he went over with,
the 20th  battalion landed at Boulogne on the 20th December 1915. The 91st Brigade was transferred to the 7th Division,
