Clutter

Hi, this is my first post, hopefully I can figure out how it all works. I joined so I can add some photos of a relative. Here is information I found about him about 20 years ago.

Name - Hubert Dixon, born 26/05/1896 Killed in action France & Flanders 01/07/1916. He enlisted in Oldham, Pte. 25073 19th Battalion, The Manchester Regiment. I'm not sure if 4th Manchester Pals is significant here?

Thanks  :)

Clutter

Could anybody tell me the protocol for copying other people's photos please? I have found Hubert on the Thiepval photos on your Flikr stream. I'd like to have a copy for me and my Auntie. What do I do?

Wendi

Hi Clutter! And a warm welcome to our forum.  ;D The pictures you refer to are made by the members of the forum and you are welcome to download them for your personal use.

Hi thanks Wendi  :) I can't believe we actually drove quite close to the Theipval memorial in 2010.

We did visit the Vimy Ridge cemetery, the German bit on the way in and the Canadian graves on the way out.

Hi Clutter
welcome to the forum.

On Ancestry it has his Medal index card and 10 pages of his service records.

It gives his address as 16 Edith St Oldam
his next of kin was his father Albert Dixon at the same address
he enlisted on the 10th of Dec 1915 and was 19yrs 180 day
He was 5'5" tall.

There is a very good book about the 19th Battalion called
Orders are Orders
A Manchester Pal on the Somme

written in 1917 by Albert William Andrews
one of the soldiers of the 19th Bn.

If you go on Ancestry
Type in his name and in the key word put Manchester Regiment.

Clutter

Thank you Timberman, the address details are correct along with Albert his Father  :). The photos I have been scanning today have been held at that address until my Uncle died a couple of years ago.

I think I have found his name on the '19thBn A Company Platoon No4' thread, but it says he wasn't in the main picture, so I've looked at the supplementary picture but I'm not sure if he is on it.

Where is the place I should add my photos?

Clutter

By the way 5ft 5" is small for our family!

Clutter

I'm looking on Ancestry but I think I have to register and pay before I can see anything?

Here is the link to the photo section.

This is the link how to post a photo to the forum

http://themanchesters.org/forum/index.php?topic=447.0

or you can e mail them to one of the Mods and we will post them for you.

The height of my Granddad was small for our family too at 5' 23/4"

You do have to register with Ancestry , I think sometimes you can
have a 14 days trial free, but you need to check on the rule for this.

hubert wasnt in any of the platoon photos,he enlisted on 10th december 1915 but wasnt called up till 26th january 1916,he was posted to the 26th reserve battalion manchester regt after passing his medical at ashton barracks the same day.

Clutter

That's a shame he isn't on the photos Mack. Was he still in the 19th battalion? That's the information I have for when he died. Maybe he went there after the 26th btn?

Timberman I will add a thread for his photos thanks.
