CSM Charles Norman Bramhall ?
« on: March 05, 2012, 04:54:35 PM »
My neighbour has just returned from holiday during which time he met one of the daughters of a certain Charles Norman Bramhall who supposedly served with the Manchester Regiment.
Knowing of my interest in the Manchesters my neighbour said I would be able to find out something about him.
From the info below I had assumed that he was 2nd battalion, POW Dunkirk and had served in Burma 1930-1932 but to date I can't find anything on him (except birth and death records) and as I cannot get to Ashton for a few months I wondered whether anyone has any details on him.

I have the following from the family:
Born in Newton-le-Willows on 26th October 1907.
Warrant Officer WO2 (Company Sergeant Major).
Holds 4-5 medals including "Meritorious Service Medal" after serving for 30+ years?
Chelsea pensioner from 1985-89. He died in December 1989.
Believed to have served in India and concluded service in Wooler UK and in a German POW Camp.

Any info would be very gratefully received by his family.
Many thanks in advance.
Bob B

I am a bit confused by the last piece of information.

Is it possible to find out anything about RSM Bramhall?

hiya bob.
i think the family may have got confused somewhere along the way with the bit about him being a POW,he could have been a guard at brewery road POW at wooler in northumbria[known as camp 105B],it was originally for italian prisoners but changed to holding german POWs on 24th sept 1944.

2.  German POW's - not on it
3.  FEPOW's - not on it
4.  1960 Army List for Kings WO1's - not on it.

Many thanks guys.
I have a feeling there has been some confusion in the family. I will ask my neighbour to get back to the family and ask for more details.
Thanks again.

hiya bob.
i believe CSM bramhall was married in newton in 1944 to miss eileen,m shaw, which rules out him being a POW.
