Hi,
I am trying to research this guy who served in the Manchester Regt in the late 1930's:

3525696 Cpl David Emlyn Lewis

The medal roll for palestine dated July 1940 (in Preston)  states he then transfered to the 8th Bn Loyal Regiment and he later died on the 21st Feb 1944 as 3525696 Bombadier DE Lewis, 24 Mobile Light Anti Aircraft Regt Royal Artillery.

I would be grateful for any information on Cpl Lewis during the time he served with the Manchesters.

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Hi Rick

You would need to try Ashton Enlistment books, has his number falls in the 1930s-40s 3525028-3525999, MR4/6/5/15 Vol 1

His service number is very close to my fathers (3525679) so he would have joined not long after him.  My father joined on 21st July 1932.  The following were his movements up to the 1st Battalion leaving Palastine for Singapore:
West Indies 23-01-34 to 26-09-35
Egypt           27-09-35 to 13-04-37
Cyprus         14-04-37 to 27-11-37
Egypt           28-11-37 to 13-01-38
Palestine     14-01-38 to 25-09-38
I have only had time to have a quick scan of the Far East Memorial Roll and could not see his name there so I am assuming he did not go to Singapore with the Manchester's.
Do you know where he is burried?
If you are close to the Regimental Museum and Archive in Ashton Under Lyne a visit to the archive should provide you with more information on his service with the Manchester's.
