« on: December 27, 2011, 09:54:06 AM »
according to statistics, the average strenghth of the 63rd foot in the crimea, was 448 officers+men.

statistics during the campaign
admitted to hospitals 602
admitted to hospital at scutari 383
died in hospital scutari 170
died in the crimea 183
invalided home 96

my research found that 183 officers+men died in hospital at scutari and 220 officers+men died in the crimea[including those who died at sea]and 150 invalided home[including pte john kennedy who was nursing the sick on the journey]

i only found one soldier who died in a hospital other than scutari

Mack
Can you let me no where you get yours to statistics from, as I have the following in front of me:

Dispatches and papers related to the campaign in Turkey, Asia Minor and the Crimea during the war with Russia 1854-56.
History of the 63rd West Suffolk Regiment.
Difficulties Be Damend.
History of the Manchester Regiment ( late 63rd and 96th Foot)

And just being lazy or did you get from The Times or any of the newspapers, this is for any future research.

Regards Roy
