Hello new to the forum and in need of some expert help please. As stated above I am trying to find my grandfather private Arthur Riley. I have his medal index card so I know his army number and on the card it says 20/18205, which I believe stands for the 20th. I also know from the card that his theatre of war was France and the date he arrived was 20/12/1915. Is there anyone out there who may be able to help, it has been quite a while since I have had any breakthroughs with my grandad.

hi salfordlad

The service number 18205 would certainly fit as a 20th battalion number as would the date of his arrival in France. Unfortunately he seems to have missed the platoon photo sessions

I see he went into the Royal Defence Corps so I am wondering if he was medically downgraded at some point
