Hello there, I am looking for any information on Albert Newton of the 7th Battalion, the Manchesters. He was my grandfathers younger brother being born in 1893 at longsight, Manchester. According to the 1911 Census he was living with his father, Richard Newton, dairyman at 11 Ducie Street Longsight and his occupation was given as Clothiers Warehouseman. One of the attached photos in uniform clearly shows badges of the 7th Battalion and also a number of overseas service stripes. He was married to  Dorothy. My grandfather immigrated to Queensland in 1913 and thereafter lost touch over the years. All we have is a number of photos. Hopefully someone may be able to suggest that he was in the 1st or 2nd Seventh so I can track his Service. Albert appears to be his only Christian name and his service number is unknown at this stage.
Paul Newton (Queensland)

I have a lot more on other members of the family to :)

Just out of interest, did Albert become a dairy farm out in Queensland with his brother Richard & how many of this big family stayed here in Manchester along with there parents?

Yes, I think you might have the right Ernest A Newton, born 1887.  My grandfather John William Newton was the eldest of the family. Another brother Richard Herbert Newton (known as Herbert) also immigrated to Queensland.  John William and subsequently my father owned a dairy farm at Maleny Queensland. We have a group photo of a family wedding which includes Ernest. Do you know if Ernest was in a Territorial Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers.
