Hi to all. This really is a fantastic site.
Would like any help at all with my Grandfather, Pt 14130 Ernest Henry Stanbury. He served in the 24th Battalion. Signed up on 10th Nov 1914 at Oldham.
Medal Roll shows Silver War Badge awarded 09/11/1915.
There are no existing photographs of him at all - I have searched all on Photo Identity Project for 24th Batt. Any information other than Medal Roll and Sign up papers (which i have) would be fantastic
Thanks

Jim Stanbury

Hi & welcome Stanbo,  not what you asked for but while you are searching for you grandfather photo, you might like to know his brother Frederick Arthur W Stanbury served WW1. The family Stanbury family lived at 276 Waterloo street Oldham, When Frederick Stanbury married Amy B Rowe in 1915 he left that address and moved to 205 London road, Oldham. He is shown on the Oldham 1918 absent voters list. He joined the Royal Engineers. His medal card is on Ancestry but if you don't have access to that site you can get a copy from the national archives for £2 Click here for Frederick's medal card I did find a reference to an Albert W Stabury WW1 Royal Navy but can't prove he is your great uncle?

Thanks Mack & Migky. Fantastic stuff. Apparently my Grandfather used to tease my Dad saying that (I'll clean this up a bit) he was shot in the backside whilst going to the toilet. I'm guessing this was Tommy humour for having Dysentary.... ;D

Migky. Thanks for the info, I didn't know what happened to Frederick. Albert W Stanbury went on to work for Mancunian Film and has a listing on IMDB.

Great response, again thanks both

Migky.

Your welcome, do you think Albert joined the navy WW1?

Migky  ;)

Possibly. Though it was never mentioned. I know Alberts age from 1901 census, so if can tally that with Navy records would pin it down a bit more. Can get Ancestry.com free in local Library so looks like will be using up a couple of free afternoons soon. Again thanks for the help
