Further to Mack's info,
Maria SAVAGE, formerly MOORES, married Robert Mar. qtr. 1881, 8D : 191, Manchester. moved into 8, Dimity Street, (Ancoats) Manchester. Robert was an Iron Planer born 1855, Manchester.
Maria MOORES' father was James, born Manchester 1826, a Machine Fitter, his wife Elizabeth, b. 826 was born in Salford. By 1871 they had ten children including Maria and were living at 78, Chapel Street (Off London Road), Manchester.By 1901 Maria was a widow living at 8, Chapel Street, with four children still living at home - Elizabeth (1882); Walter (1884): William(1886) and John (1888).
I am still curious about the Herbert and Annis -  the only marriage I can find of similarity is -
Herbert SAVAGE married Alice M PHILLIPS, Chorlton, 1913, Jun qtr, 8C : 1730.
Cheers,
George  ;D

It is hard to explain what this information from Mack and George means to me, I have spent several years looking for the resting place of my Grandparents and to get so much from a simple enquiry about my Dad's war service record seems nothing short of a minor miracle, I thought I had exhausted all the avenues, although I admit to being a mere beginner on the Genealogy front. I am so grateful to you guys and all who have contributed since I joined the Manchester's forum. it's difficult to type with tears in your eyes, but it means that much to me, a mere 'thank you' doesn't say what I feel, perhaps I'll try again when I'm a little more settled.

Kindest regards.

Roy

then my living has not been in vain."

You are more than welcome to what little we have done.

Hi Roy !  Welcome to our forum

It is reasonably easy to apply for his service record from the MOD, although there maybe a wait to receive it.

You will need a copy of his death certificate, which I presume you have, and there is a fee of £30

Click Here to link to the pages from the MOD explaining how to, and to download the necessary forms.

Don't worry if you can not provide all the information required, just provide as much as you can.

Good luck and if you have any queries, don't hesitate to ask.

Wendi  :)

Hello again Wendi

I thought I would let you know that I have followed your advice, filled in the forms and sent off my £30.00 cheque to get my Dad's Army service record, as you said it is really quite easy to do (if you know how) which I didn't!

You may be as surprised to learn, as I was, that I cannot expect any results from MOD re my enquiry for a period of 9 to 12 months!
Those guys must be pretty busy!!

Thanks again for your help

Kindest regards.

Roy

Wendi

Hi Roy I'm glad you have applied, it makes the waiting time shorter  ;D

The MOD respond to requests from ex-service personnel first, which I guess is only fair, but I'm sure with all the information you were able to provide the time will speed past!

We are all glad you joined the forum and that we have been able to assist.

Wow what a terrific find for you. Took me years to find out that kind of info.
Very happy for you. Such a great site, wonderful people helping out on here.
Regarding your fathers passing, maybe it was as a result of an accident.
What does it say on his death Cert. The reason I mention it, is if it was something like that, there could be something in the local paper around that time.
The way it was worded intruiged me. (sp) Its worth checking.
I noticed also that an Austin Lowry was the person who authorised the wedding in Swinton. Could be a rellie of L.S. Lowry  :)
kind regards

Thanks for that Migky, I am amazed that you can come up with such old wedding certificates, they will fit very nicely into my Family tree programme.
Also thanks for the amendment to the grave details, I will follow that up. I did follow up Mack's info, but the guy at the Cemetery said he didn't know what the A meant and then changed the C to a G so that we finished up at G744 which was of course not my family, however he then took me to G744 in the Non Conformist section and pointed out a piece of grass and said 'She must be about here'! altogether not a good experience and the info was there from Mac in the first place, apart from the denomination, but I guessed C of E anyway.
I am truly grateful for your help, I owe so many of you guys a drink and I will pay up one of these days I promise.

Kind regards.

Hi Tisgrannie,

Yes the wording on the certificate intrigued me also, but there was no doubt about cause of death, It was heart attack (Myocardiac something or other)
Which wedding in Swinton are you referring to, I don't see it on any of the wedding certs that Migky sent to me?
You are right about the people on this site, I have never had so much help before in my search for my relatives, I just wish I knew how they do it!
Austin Lowry might be a great great great uncle of mine! so I might be a relative of L.S. but I doubt it, if it has musical notes I am happy, but if it requires a paint brush or pencil forget it!!

Kind regards.

Hi Monsstar
I'm only researching my Dad's war record, just as a way of getting a little closer to him (well that's how it feels to me) I only did National Service in Malaya for two years, active service but not very 'Active'.
Although I have contacted my old Drum Major (Corps of Drums) now in his eighties and one other guy from our group who now lives in NZ.
I fell in love with Malaya and dreamt about it for years afterwards.
Kind regards.
Roy
