Yay!!  the lectures are back!!

after a couple of years absence, i always enjoyed the ones i went to and i think they just may be a good excuse for the local members to get together

Title:  252 Years of Service:  The Manchester Regiment Story 1756-2008

Description:  This brief history of the Regiment will highlight some of the famous names in the Regiments’ story, where they served and what they did. Learn more about the Regiment’s first Victoria Cross winners as well as what the latest generation of Regimental soldier is doing today.

Title:  Prisoners: The Story of the Regiments Far East Prisoners of War 1942-1945

Description:  Between 1942 and 1945 many men, women and children suffered great hardship at the hands of their Japanese captors.  Learn more about the experiences of the men of the Regiment that endured those years of hard work and deprivation.  Learn how their humour, regimental pride and stoicism gave them the strength to go on.

Title:  What did you do in the war granddad? Family History Research Sources and the Manchester Regiment

Description:  Have you ever wondered how to find out more about your father or grandfathers time in the army?  Want to know what that old photo means or those medals and badges in the box in the attic?  Why not come along to this lecture and learn how you can investigate your own family’s involvement with the British Army, in the twentieth century.

Description: On 1st August 1958 the Manchester Regiment and King’s Liverpool Regiment joined to form the King’s Regiment.  Why not come along to this lecture and learn more about what that time was like in the words of one who witnessed it.  Perhaps you remember it yourself, why not come along and re-live those days.

Description:  Medals are not just pieces of metal.  Each medal tells a unique story.  This lecture will explore the experiences of some of the men whose hard earned medals are on display in the Museum of the Manchester Regiment.  Why not bring along your own family medals and learn more about what they can tell you about your relative’s service.

Title:  The Manchester Territorials at War 1914-18

Description:  The Manchester Regiment once had 6 Territorial Battalions based across the region from Wigan, through Manchester and Oldham to Ashton-under-Lyne.  Why not come along to this lecture and learn more about the experiences of their men during the Great War, whether in the rocky lands of Gallipoli or the muddy trenches of the Western Front.

Due to distance, I will be unable to attend (Damn, Damn) but is there any chance of transcripts of each lecture/talk being available to purchase. I am more that willing to purchase with a view of increasing the funds to the Museum.

i fully intend to attend the other lectures, though.
